Crimson Maple Farm

About our Farm

Crimson Maple Farm: In 2022 we sold the majority of our goats and stopped shipping milk. When we operated as a commercial dairy we milked 160-200 purebred Alpine and Saanen dairy goats and shipped our milk mostly to Happy Days Dairy. Our farm is in the beautiful Shuswap located on 54 acres in Salmon Arm, British Columbia. We are a family owned and operated farm that focuses on farming the land and livestock with Regenerative principles producing quality breeding stock, farm products and compost. We still breed both registered purebred Alpine and Saanen dairy goats, just on a smaller scale. In fall of 2022 we started raising sheep and are adjusting our farm to have more sheep moving forward. We will be lambing out just under 120 ewes in 2024.

Breeding Program

The direction that we are currently working towards with our herd is one that is specialized in both the Alpine and Saanen breeds that are constantly improving the herds overall longevity, lifetime production and conformation traits specifically focusing on the feet and legs, chest width, and mammary system. A strong set of feet and legs on an animal an animal gives her a greater chance of a longer life, a wide chest gives her more capacity throughout for higher milk yield. And lastly a well attached mammary with ideal teat placement and teat length make milking more efficient. Genetically our herd will be improve by the use of artificial insemination as well as breeding back our animals to the best bucks we can obtain from our own highest quality stock.

Milking Goats

Farm Philosophy

In 2017, we closed our herd from bringing in any new stock, this was done as a biosecurity measure as well as to give buyers the assurance that what they are purchasing from us is from our own healthy stock. This is why we do not show any of our goats, though we would love to exhibit and show them off!

Initially in 2014, we started milking 90 goats with a new double 18 parallel milking parlor with rapid exit. We grew our herd to milk around 160 goats year-round and milked commercially shipping our milk in the past to “Happy Days Goat Dairy”, “Cornucopia Dairy” and “Grass Root Dairies”. We stopped shipping milk commercially in late 2022, and downsized our herd to now milk around 20 goats. We sell high quality breeding stock across Canada and sell both females and also breeding bucks to other goat farms sold as breeding stock and replacements to other goat breeders. The goat dairy farm will be making some significant changes over the next several years and we are continually working towards more regenerative farming practices. We strive to find ways to improve land, soil and the Salmon River which runs parallel with our property.

Goat Breeding Stock

We offer high quality Alpine and Saanen dairy goats across the country for commercial breeders, hobby farmers and show breeders. At Crimson Maple Farm we produce high production animals with high production offspring.

Our breeding program uses top quality breeding bucks at our farm as well as the use of artificial insemination. We are a CAE negative and CL free farm that focuses on the animal’s health, productivity and longevity. We have participated in both type classification as well as milk testing through Canadian Goat Society.

Compost Sales

People have been known to drive a very long distance just to get some of our prized composted goat manure.  We have a self-serve roadside stand where people can pick up bags of composted goat manure.  This stand is up in running from April to June and September till it snows.  If you are looking for an excellent source of high quality compost this is the place to get it.

This compost is well composted, typically over a year old.  And can be used for your veggie garden, planters, and flower gardens.  Some of our customers even make compost tea with it.
