Saanen Breeding Stock

The Saanen breed also originally originated from Switzerland and is widely known as the most popular dairy goat breed of all.

Saanen breeding stock

Saanens are often thought of as the Holstein of the goat world. After all, they are on average the largest of the dairy breeds, they produce on average the most milk and it is not uncommon to see an entire herd of white goats as farmers enjoy this breed for its demeanor and production often. We have loved having the Saanen breed in our herd and were also fortunate enough to find very good stock from several farms in the country.

He has sired many buck kids that have been sold to other farms across western Canada improving genetics on other dairy farms as well. He is the sire of Crimson Maple Farm’s “Mostly Modest EX90”, arguably one of our best milking does.

Givernay Vlaminck Original VG88

Hillside Dreams Crimsons Peak

Hillside Dreams Crimson Maple #G128

(Not yet classified) Born March 21st 2019, Sire: Pepperpot Pad Macho Man, Son of Capricorn View Ulysses Dana EX93. Crimson Maple is the Grandson of Pepperpot CA Dictator, an Eastgen collection buck and son of Pepperpot PPH Destiny's Child EX94. Dam: Flying Bird Beijing Coreena EX91. The combination of these sires and dams in Crimson Maples pedigree show exceptionally high classification scores showing high class conformation traits that have made him into a strong masculine buck with a high caliber pedigree.

Hillside Dreams Crimsons Peak

(Not yet classified) Born March 27th 2020, Sire: Crimson Maple Farm’s “Crimson Maple”, Dam: our “Snow Peak VG88”, Our highest animal for CI of  137 as of March 2021. A beautiful, high producing doe with a ton of dairy character. This buck was used with a group of 2020 born doelings and we are just seeing the first kids being born from him Feb/March 2021. Nice buck coming from some of our favorite genetics in the herd.

Bucks have that have made an impact in our herd are; some of which no longer reside on our farm.

  • Flying Bird Terrific Jacobe, Purchased back in 2013 as a young buck out of Flying Bird Challenger Julie EX91, This was our first Saanen buck added to our farm and actually purchased him before we started the dairy with just a couple of does the first year. He was a quality buck that I was too inexperienced at the time to know to keep him around longer than I did. (Still learning)

  • Grasshill Whiplash Rocky GP84, A massive buck that brought in high milk production to the dairy, he was sold due to his weak pasterns. Though while being a breeding buck here at the farm he contributed to some very nice kids, though after having a couple of kids with his weak trait we moved him on. His dam Grasshill C Shamrock was an exceptional milking doe in the Grasshill herd milking over 10kg on a single milk test on several separate occasions.

  • Pepperpot Pad Macho Man, A buck that we had Massive plans for and luckily we have his son Hillside Dreams Crimson Maple being a valued breeding buck for us, Macho Man died of urinary calculi. This is the only mature buck we have ever lost to date and was hard to take as he was bought specifically for bringing in traits to our herd that I very much value from the Pepperpot farm of Patrick McLean of Ontario. We have seen absolutely amazing traits come through his offspring that he did sire while being here.

Saanen Does

  • Flying Bird Beijing Caroline VG89 (2019) reg# CS134699 D.O.B. March 27 2014 Highest points awarded Saanen doe in Canada for 2019 for official 1 day milk test. Milked through in 2020 without dry period, has only dried off in the past because of being too big for a parlor stall when heavy in kid, had quads in 2019. Caroline peaks at 8.5kg of milk in her lactations, a huge doe that is from Corolla EX90 (tallest doe we have ever had or seen anywhere.) 2017 Milk test had 5.8kg 2.72%BF @246DIM scoring 22.17pts, however she was in heat the day of and had been milking 7.4kg/day.

  • Givernay Photo Opportunity VG87 reg# S134385 D.O.B. May 12 2014. Purchased as a young kid in 2014 with the hopes to add some diversity to our breeding program and bring in an animal from the Givernay herd. Photo Opportunity has not ever disappointed us, she has given us excellent production, 8 doe kids from 4 lactations, we love this ultra gentle easy milking doe. M* was earned in 2017 scoring over 20pts with 4.7kg 3.63BF @ 232DIM.

  • Hillside Dreams Mostly Modest EX90 (2019) #268 reg# S140371 D.O.B. Nov 23 2015. Definitely one of my favorites, and she is a daughter from Photo Opportunity VG87 and Tekno Blue VG86. Exceptionally strong doe, love how she is put together all around. Earned her M* in 2017 @ over 300DIM.

  • Hillside Dreams Curtain Unveil VG85 (2019) #714 reg# CS149569 D.O.B. Feb 5 2018. Massive doe, love this does capacity, length, and general appearance. Great teat length and placement, fantastic animal.

  • Hillside Dreams Snowdrop #800 reg# CS151248 D.O.B. May 30 2018. It might be hard for this young doe to live up to what her dam Snow Peak is currently achieving, however Snowdrop is making a name for herself within the herd producing lots of milk and milking extended lactations.

  • Hillside Dreams 946 Carol reg# CS156241. D.O.B. April 15 2019. High expectations are always there from myself when I have a kid out of “Flying Bird Beijing Caroline” VG89. The highest production doe we have owned. And Carol does not disappoint, beautiful doe with all the right tools. Looking forward to having her classified.

  • Hillside Dreams 960 Alliope reg# CS156234 D.O.B. April 23 2019. Exceptionally good milking doe, and why wouldn’t she be as her dam is “Flying Bird Terrific Calliope VG89. High production doe with high class genetics.
